'Carpentaria' comments invited

After only 100 pages of Carpentaria, I am realising that it is not the book for a lazy reader. No skimming here!! Every paragraph is laden with images both dreamtime and contemporary. At this stage I am finding it a bit too slow moving but anticipate that the pace may increase once the author has set the scene. I am also finding the concept of the 'fringe dwellers' on the outskirts of a white settlement pertinent to the whole Dareton/Namatjira set up.

Well I’ve finally got my hands on a copy of the book (thanks Penny) and have read the first chapter. It is indeed full of imagery, but not as hard going as I thought it would be. I'm enjoying it so far, and learning to read 'between the lines' as the writing style requires. My only comment so far on the story is that it seems to have fallen into the modern literature bent of blacks = good, whites = bad. But I've a long way to go yet and am expecting to see more shades of grey as I read. Deidre

Re-read Carpentaria over Christmas - I love that book. I understood the plot much better second time around, and still got swept away with the dreamtime images. I think it should be Baz Luhrman's next big Australian epic.
Anyone got a copy for sale?
